Long Beach Health and Human Services (Health Department)’s Advancing Peace Initiative is giving $67,000 to over two dozen local organizations to plan events that emphasize safety, community, healthy neighborhoods and economic development throughout the summer.

Twenty-seven non-profits will receive funds to contribute to the further development of S.T.R.O.N.G. Beach (Standing Together to Reach Our Next Generation), an element of the City’s Summer of Opportunity Initiative. S.T.R.O.N.G. Beach Summer is intended to provide free community activities for Long Beach youth with hopes to combat youth violence in the city.

The Long Beach Advancing Peace Steering Committee, made up of City staff, community and nonprofit representatives, helped organize the necessary criteria for the summer event plans.

“These programs embody Long Beach and our commitment to fostering a vibrant, connected and thriving city. S.T.R.O.N.G. Beach Summer focuses on creating safe, enriching and inclusive events for all our residents,” said Mayor Rex Richardson in a public statement. “We are proud to have these 27 organizations join our effort to [provide] a safe and healthy summer.”
