16-year-old Long Beach boy killed by suspected drunk driver

A 16-year-old boy struck and killed by an alleged DUI driver while crossing a Long Beach street was publicly identified Monday, Sept. 6.

Aiden Gossage was a Long Beach resident, according to the coroner’s office.

Kevin Chris Dahl, 33, of Lakewood was arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter after a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker he was driving struck and killed Gossage at about 9:10 p.m. Saturday as the teen crossed Los Coyotes Diagonal at Deborah Street in a marked crosswalk, according to Long Beach police.

The mid-sized SUV was southbound on Los Coyotes Diagonal, police said.

Paramedics arriving at the location pronounced Gossage dead at the scene.

Dahl’s bail was set at $100,0000, and he was released on bond at 7:12 a.m. Sunday, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department inmate records.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been started for Gossage’s family online.

As of Tuesday morning, it had raised $985 toward its goal of $10,000. The page is no longer accepting donations.
