The Long Beach Community Conversations series will kick off Thursday evening with a town hall for and by residents to discuss pressing local issues.

Thursday’s event, sponsored by neighborhood advocacy group Citizens About Responsible Planning (CARP), is the first conversation in this three-part series.

This upcoming community discussion will feature the following speakers and topics:

  • Lisa Dunn, founder of Long Beach SANeR (Small Aircraft Noise Reduction), which has over 850 members, will discuss general aviation impacts and potential solutions.
  • Cindi Millard, founder of HOOD (Homeowners Oppose Oversize Development), will discuss the potential threat to homeowners stemming from the planned five-story Wardlow Road and Cerritos Avenue development, as well as proper land use versus abuse.

Though these topics primarily relate to those who live in North Long Beach, especially those living west and east of the Long Beach Airport, all Long Beach residents are welcome to take part.

Discussions of each issue will be followed by an open audience forum where attendees can ask questions on the featured issues or bring up another local issue of importance to them. The event will also include information tables from various neighborhood organizations.

The following proposed topics for the two future conversations in the series will be voted on by the audience during Thursday’s event:

  • Sept. 18 in the McBride High School lecture hall: Public Safety & Homelessness
  • Nov. 19 at EXPO Arts Center: Density, Open Space & Air Quality

Doors will open for Thursday’s event at 5:15 p.m., with the program starting at 6 p.m. at EXPO Arts Center (4321 Atlantic Ave.). To learn more about Long Beach Community Conversations, visit communityconvosLB.com or email CommunityConversationsLB@gmail.com,
