Long Beach Police Department officers responded to a fatal car collision at the 710 Freeway on-ramp, north of Ocean Boulevard on Friday, Jan. 28 at approximately 2:07 a.m.
The single car collision resulted in the death of a 23-year-old man from Compton.
When officers arrived at the scene they found the man seriously injured and unconscious inside a 2013 Honda Civic, according to a LBPD press release.
LBPD states that officers administered emergency care to the man until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived, who continued emergency care and transported the man to a local hospital where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
According to LBPD, a preliminary investigation found that the driver of a gray Honda Civic was driving northbound on the on-ramp when he failed to turn on the curved on-ramp and crashed into a metal guard rail.
Speed is believed to be a factor in the collision but drugs and alcohol are not.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
