The 30th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13, with a theme of “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants.” The parade will kick off at 10:30am at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Anaheim Street.
The parade line-up will feature 80 entries, and the celebration will include over 30 food trucks, merchandise and information vendors. Entertainment will be headlined by classic Long Beach band Kiddo and include musical, drum and dance performances.
The free celebration will take place from noon to 6pm, at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 1950 Lemon Ave.
Free parking will be available at Long Beach City College Pacific Coast Campus on Orange Avenue and 19th Street.
Volunteers are still being accepted for parade route monitoring, celebration set-up assistance and after-hours clean-up. Those interested should call 6th District Councilmember Dee Andrews’s office at (562) 570-6816.
