The students’ designs are inspired by natural objects such as birds, flowers and butterflies.

Fashion students at Long Beach City College (LBCC) will be hosting their 33rd Annual Fashion Awards Show, “Avant-Garden of Eden,” on Thursday, May 21, at 7:30pm in the auditorium (Bldg. J) of the Liberal Arts Campus (LAC), 4901 East Carson St.
“The design students will display colorful creations inspired by beautiful objects in nature such as birds, flowers, jellyfish, butterflies and even the phenomenon of aurora borealis,” said Pamela Knights, LBCC fashion program director. “We are also thrilled to announce that Alicia Estrada of Stop Staring! Clothing company will return for a third year to judge the project runway competition for which she has assigned the students the challenge of designing a cocktail or evening dress inspired by the sexy sirens of film noir.”
The show will begin with a segment called “Avant-Garden of Eden,” created specifically to reinforce the show’s theme. This segment will be followed by “Waterfall Swimwear,” “De-vine Day Dresses,” “Take a Hike” Sportswear, “Adam and Eve” tailored suits, “Sunset After-Five,” and will conclude with “Under the Stars” evening wear. A special segment called “The Next Generation” will feature garments designed by five local high schools including Lakewood, Artesia, Cerritos, Norwalk and Renaissance High School for the Arts.
Industry professionals will judge student entries, and winners will receive the Golden French Curve Design Awards and donated scholarships.
General admission tickets are priced at $15 at the door, or $12 pre-sale through the ASB Bank located in the LAC Bookstore. High school students may purchase tickets at the box office for $8 with school identification.
All proceeds will benefit the LBCC fashion program. For more information, call (562) 938-4192 or email pknights@lbcc.edu.
