8 holiday toy giveaways in Long Beach for families in need

Toys, meals and groceries will be distributed to families throughout the month.

For families that need a helping hand to make the holidays special for their little ones, nonprofits will be distributing toys, meals and groceries at these eight giveaway events.

Toy Giveaway

Who: Southern California Medical Center

When: Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: 1627 E Anaheim St.

Details: Children between the ages of 4 and 10 will be able to receive gifts at this distribution while supplies last. Children must be present to receive a gift.

LB Winter Wonderland

Who: LA Care & Blue Shield 

When: Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: LA Care & Blue Shield Promise Community Resource Center (5599 Atlantic Ave.)

Details: During this event, 100 toys and 100 diaper packs will be distributed free of charge while supplies last. Entertainment will include games, a climbing wall and the Aquarium on Wheels. Everyone is welcome at this event.

Comedian Antonio “Negro Guapo” Parker and Vicky Vicious from the local heavy metal band Heavenly Trip To Hell were some of the volunteers distributing gifts at the 10th Annual Diamond Christmas Toy Giveaway.

Who: The YMCA

When: Saturday, Dec. 16 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Where: Fairfield Family YMCA, 4949 Atlantic Ave.

More Info Children ages 16 and under can receive a gift, and each family can receive a box of food. Families have to register for this event by 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8. To register, visit Eventbrite.

Holiday Toy & Grocery Giveaway

Who: Pools of Hope

When: Saturday, Dec. 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: 6801 Long Beach Blvd.

Details: Children between the ages of 1 and 17 can receive a free toy and families can receive free groceries. Toys will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must be present at the event to receive a toy. Asthma screenings will also be available on-site. To register, visit Eventbrite.

Northeast Village Annual Toy Giveaway

Who: Councilmember Mary Zendejas 

When: Saturday, Dec. 16 from noon to 2 p.m.

Where: Gumbiner Park (628 MLK Blvd.)

Details: The office of Councilmember Mary Zendejas and other local groups will be distributing toys to children who live in the 90813 zip code. Children must be present to receive a toy.

11th Annual Toy Giveaway

Who: Love in the Mirror

When: Saturday, Dec. 16 from noon to 3 p.m.

Where: Long Beach City College, LAC Campus, T Building (4901 E Carson St.)

Details: During this distribution, attendees will receive free groceries, hygiene products and toys. Entertainment will include music, face painting, balloon art and more. Children must be under the age of 15. Registration is required for this event. To register, visit loveinthemirror.org/.

Christmas Party & Lunch

Who: Justice for Murdered Children 

When: Saturday, Dec. 16 from noon to 3 p.m.

Where: Teamster Local 848

Details: During this holiday party local children will be given free lunch and toys. Families are required to register by Dec. 12 by calling 310-547-5362 or emailing victimvoices@yahoo.com

LB Holiday Festival

Who: My Ancestors’ Dreams 

When: Sunday, Dec. 17 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Where: Drake Park (951 Maine Ave.)

Details: During this holiday celebration, kids 17 and under will play games, make crafts and receive a free gift. Children must be present to receive a gift.
