8th District council office, Goodwill to host 'Shed and Shred' event

Eighth District Long Beach Councilmember Al Austin and Goodwill will jointly host the district’s annual “Shed and Shred,” an e-waste drive, clothing donation and shred-fest event on Saturday, April 29.
“I am happy to partner with Goodwill this year to provide this service to the community,” Austin said. “In addition to shredding and e-waste recycling, we are now accepting clothing and household item donations that will help fund Goodwill’s job programs that benefit individuals with barriers to employment.”
The event will take place in the parking lot at Scherer Park, at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard, in front of the North Division Police Station, 4891 Atlantic Ave. Documents to be shredded will be accepted only from 9am to 11am, and e-waste and gently used donated items will be collected from 9am to noon.
A local company, Shred-It Inc., will destroy the documents on site and then recycle the paper shreds.
Residents can properly dispose of electronic waste, such as old computer monitors and towers, televisions, plasma screens, DVD players, printers, scanners and other electronics.
No microwaves, fluorescent tubes or household hazardous waste will be accepted.
The partnership with Goodwill has brought the addition of the collection of soft good items that include clothing, accessories, household items, small appliances, books, sporting goods equipment and more.
