Eighth District Councilmember Al Austin will host a community meeting to discuss the Long Beach budget for the 2014-15 fiscal year. The meeting will take place on Thursday, Aug. 14 at 6:30pm at the Eastman Boys and Girls Club, 700 E. Del Amo Blvd. (Additional parking is available across the street at Scherer Park.)
“This community meeting will be an opportunity to hear first-hand from city management about the proposed budget and how it will affect city services,” Austin said. “Residents will be able to ask questions and provide input on how the City should prioritize our resources.”
Austin will also highlight some of the 8th District projects that were funded in the FY 2014 budget, as well as how this year’s budget will impact the district, according to a press release issued by his office.
Representatives from the City Manager’s Office and Budget Office as well as the police, fire, public works and Parks, Recreation & Marine departments will be on hand to discuss the service levels in the proposed budget. The presentation will also include a discussion of how to invest $11.7 million in one-time revenues in the next fiscal year. Despite a projected budget surplus this year, city management is cautioning that deficits are projected again beginning in Fiscal Year 2017, according to Austin’s office.
