Woman killed by vehicle near Cal State Long Beach

A 35-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in Long Beach before sunrise Wednesday.

Officers arrived at the intersection of Seventh Street and Pepper Tree Lane around 5:05 a.m. Wednesday to a report regarding a collision involving a pedestrian, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police said the victim was discovered lying in the eastbound lanes of Seventh Street, west of Pepper Tree Lane. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics responded to the location and pronounced her dead at the scene.

The victim was later identified as Tabitha Ixchop, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

Detectives discovered during their investigation that Ixchop ran northbound across the eastbound lanes of Seventh Street outside a marked crosswalk before being struck by a vehicle.

Police said Ixchop fell into one of the traffic lanes, where she was struck by another vehicle. Both drivers remained at the scene, pulled over after the collision and called 911.

Police said neither speed nor distracted or impaired driving appeared to be a factor in the deadly collision.
