A preview group art exhibit, From East to West, will kick off this year’s Long Beach 5th Biennial Mid-City Studio Tour. The exhibit, at Greenly Art Space, 2698 Junipero Ave. #113, in Signal Hill, will feature artwork from the artists participating in the subsequent Mid-City Studio Tour.
The opening reception will be Saturday, May 14 from 7pm to 9pm. The exhibit will run through May 31 and will be open and free to the public. Gallery hours are on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11am to 2pm, or by appointment by calling (562) 533-4020.
Greenly Art Space is an art therapy studio and gallery run by director Kimberly Hocking, who says Greenly is “dedicated to enriching lives and cultivating community through art.”
The artists in From East to West will open their studios on Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5 from 11am to 5pm. The public is invited to see a diverse range of artworks, including paintings, mixed-media constructions, handmade artists’ books, prints, photographs, and jewelry. Images, additional information about the artists, and a tour map are available on the event website at midcitystudiotour.com.
The free event is called The Mid-City Studio Tour because of the neighborhood locations of the artists’ studios within Long Beach. This fifth biennial program celebrates the vital visual artist community in this city.
“There are many wonderful, creative artists in this area who outnumber the arts venues available to present work to the public,” said Sue Ann Robinson, known nationally for her innovative, handmade art books. “The Mid-City Studio Tour provides a special opportunity to see artists’ environments and processes.”
Participating artists include: Robinson, Slater Barron, JoAnne Berke, Victoria Damrel, Cynthia K Evans, Gisele, Moira Hahn, Ilee Kaplan, John Montich, Pia Pizzo, Robert Potier, Carol Roemer, Joan Skogsberg Sanders, Annie Stromquist, and Gail Werner. Greenly Art Space will participate in the Mid-City Studio Tour by featuring two of the artists.
