In what started out as a memorial for a fallen classmate, the Renaissance High School for the Arts is hosting a fundraiser for the Jake Summers Memorial Scholarship Sunday, Oct. 21 beginning at 1 p.m. at Di Piazzas, located at 5203 East Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach.
The event was put together by friends and classmates who wanted to celebrate the life of Summers who died in a car accident last Labor Day Weekend.
The event consists of a silent auction from the Di Piazzas parking lot and then dinner dancing and live music following the auction. Summers’ father and brother are both members of the bands playing at the fundraiser.
“Jake was a budding musician himself and he was honing his talent on the guitar at Renaissance,” said Shelly Reswick, one of the mothers who helped organize the event.
All proceeds from the silent auction will fund the Jake Summers Memorial Scholarship, which will help Renaissance High School graduates continue their education.
Auction items include Long Beach Symphony Orchestra tickets, a gift certificate from FreeSpirit Yoga, a basket of services from Tuttle Cameras, a five-hour outing on a forty foot sailboat catered by an executive chef, as well as art pieces donated by local and nationally acclaimed artists.
