While you’re checking in on your New Year’s resolutions, don’t miss out on the community-centric fun and free things to do in Long Beach and Signal Hill throughout the week.

Civic engagement takes the forefront this week, with an opportunity to meet congressmember Nanette Barragan Saturday morning, two chances to weigh in on Long Beach’s fiscal year budget priorities on Tuesday and Wednesday night, and a renter’s rights workshop Tuesday morning.

If you’d rather sit for a movie rather than a meeting, the Billie Jean King Main Library will screen the Kenyan documentary “Mully” Friday evening, while the Michelle Obama Library invites teens for a screening of the Studio Ghibli film “Howl’s Moving Castle” Wednesday evening.

For a participatory artful evening, Open Mic LB will be at WE Labs Friday night into early morning, and Bel Canto Books invites COVID-tested and mask-wearing residents to make zines in support of Palestine Sunday evening.
