Two quick-thinking young women helped authorities find an abducted 4-year-old boy after authorities issued an Amber Alert when the car he was in was stolen in Long Beach, police said Wednesday.
The alert was issued just after 5:45 p.m. Tuesday after the father of Justin Chan left a 2021 Honda Accord running and unattended near First Street and Linden Avenue with the boy inside, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Reagan Dunn told KABC that she and her friend saw the stolen car and called 911 after they impulsively decided to go driving around to look for the stolen vehicle after receiving the alert on their phones.
“We got an Amber Alert on our phone and we decided to start looking,” Dunn told KABC7. “We started driving around, it was 10 minutes. Our route ended, and we decided to keep looking.
“[Her friend] was driving and I glanced over. I was like, wait I just saw a gray Honda Accord, and I saw 8XP, which was the license plate.”
The Huntington Beach resident continued, “She turned around and we parked over there. I called 911. We ran across the street and the license plate matched up.”
Police were contacted and found the Honda with the child sitting in his car seat inside the car near Pine Avenue and Shoreline Drive around 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, and he was shortly joined by his father, KCAL 9 reported.
Officers are continuing to examine surveillance footage of the area in order to locate possible suspects, Fox 11 reported.
No arrests have been made, according to KCAL.
