Women’s Health Forum

Breakfast Meeting With Betty Karnette
The National Federation of Independent Business/California is hosting a breakfast with Assembly Member Betty Karnette Friday, Oct. 19 to discuss what she is doing for small businesses in her district. The meeting will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mimi’s Café at 6670 East Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach. NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet

The Long Beach Branch National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is hosting its 28th annual Freedom Fund Banquet & Awards Presentation Friday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. The Banquet will be held at The Grand, located at 4101 East Willow Street in Long Beach and will include a president’s reception, silent auction and dinner along with the program. String Ensemble Concert

The Friends of Music at California Heights United Methodist Church is presenting a concert with the California Baptist University String Ensemble directed by Angela Brand-Butler on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. The program includes works by Copland, Bernstein, Corelli, Mussorgsky and others. It will be held in the sanctuary, located at 3759 Orange Avenue in Long Beach. Admission is free and childcare will be provided. Special Lecture by Judea Pearl

Dr. Judea Pearl will speak on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Alpert JCC on her topic entitled “Being Western, American and Jewish in the Post 9/11 Era.” The lecture is hosted by The Alpert JCC and Shul by the Shore. Embroiderers’ Guild of America
On Friday, Oct. 26, Chris Higgins will be teaching Christmas Heart, a Swedish embroidery technique, at the Long Beach Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America, Inc. monthly meeting. The meeting will take place at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gregory Episcopal Church, located at 6201 East Willow Street in Long Beach. Guests are welcome and are requested to pay a $2 donation. Beach Walk and Wellness Fair
The Children’s Clinic is hosting the Beach Walk 5K and Wellness Fair on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Marina Green, located on the corner of Shoreline Drive and Ocean Boulevard. The event begins with registration at 8 a.m. and the beach walk at 9 a.m. After the walk will be the wellness fair followed by lunch and an awards ceremony at 11:30 a.m. For more information, call (562) 492-6703.

Halloween Carnival
The Signal Hill Community Services Department will be presenting the 2007 Halloween “Monster” Carnival Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Signal Hill Park, located at 1780 East Hill Street in Signal Hill. The event is $2 per child ages 13 and under and adults are free when accompanied by a child. Guests will enjoy games, food treats and a “buster balloon” show. Food bank volunteers needed
