Summer day camps in Long Beach: Where and how to register your kids

Kids ages 5 through 12 can spend their summer days playing games, exploring nature and doing crafts in Long Beach Park or Aquatic Day Camps. 

Parents can begin registering their kids for these camps organized by the City’s Parks, Recreation and Marine department on April 13 on the Long Beach Parks website. Costs for the day camps vary from $100 to $221 a week, depending on the times and activities. 

These camps will run from June 17 to Aug. 23, and families can apply for financial assistance for these programs on a first-come, first-served basis by calling (562) 570-3150.

Summer Park Camps

Times: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. regular hours, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. extended hours

Weekly Cost: $100 for regular hours, $125 for extended hours

The Summer Park Camps will take place at various parks throughout the city Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for regular hours, and from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for children in extended care. 

This program offers games, crafts, physical fitness and enrichment activities for kids ages 5 to 12. 

The Summer Day Camps will take place at the following sites:

●       Bixby Park (130 Cherry Ave.)

●       El Dorado Park West (2800 N. Studebaker Road)

●       Houghton Park (6301 Myrtle Ave.)

●       Martin Luther King Jr. Park (1950 Lemon Ave.)

●       Pan American Park (5157 Centralia St.)

●       Silverado Park (1545 W. 31st St.)

●       Stearns Champions Park (4520 E 23rd St.)

●       Veterans Park (101 E. 28th St.)

●       Wardlow Park (3457 Stanbridge Ave.)

●       Whaley Park (5620 E. Atherton St.)

Aquatics Day Camps

Times: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. regular hours, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. extended hours

Weekly Cost: $165 for regular hours, up to $221 for extended hours

Kids ages 5 to 7 can attend the Belmont Junior Beach Camp at the Belmont Plaza Pool (4320 E Olympic Plaza) to enjoy games, crafts, beach play, songs, kayaking, canoeing and swimming lessons from the American Red Cross. 

Kids ages 8 to 12 can attend a similar camp at Bayshore Park (5415 E Ocean Blvd.) with all the same activities as well as marine biology lessons. 

The Aquatic Day Camps cost $165 per week for children attending from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It costs $193 weekly for those who wish to extend their hours either two hours earlier in the morning (7 a.m.) or two hours later in the evening (6 p.m.). Parents can keep their child at either of the Aquatic Day Camps for the full extended day 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for $221 a week.

How to Register

The portal to register children in the Summer Park Camps or Aquatic Day Camps will open on the LB Parks site on April 13 at 9 a.m. 

Residents can ask questions and receive help enrolling from PRM staff at several locations from 8 a.m. to noon on April 13:

Families can also visit any open Long Beach Public Library location to register at one of the available public computer labs.
