More than 550 costumed dogs are expected for Long Beach’s “Haute Dog Howl’oween” Parade and Pet Adoption Fair on Sunday, Oct. 28 at Livingston Park from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. This will be the seventh year of the 12-block sidewalk parade down 2nd Street.
The event, organized by community activist Justin Rudd, will include a pet adoption and vendor fair, a dog treat snacking contest, the Howl’oween parade and a Children’s Costume Contest, where more than 200 kids ages 12 and younger have the chance to win $100 in cash and prizes.
For the dog with the best costume, they can win a year’s worth of dog food courtesy of PetPop.com. Other prizes include gift certificates for the best dressed person, prize packs for the 13 best costumed parade entries and the winner of the Dog Treat Snacking Contest.
Costume judging is based on originality, showmanship, detail of costume and first impression.
The fundraiser, known as the world’s largest Halloween pet event, is expected to raise $12,000 this year. A $10 tax-deductible parade entry fee benefits the Long Beach nonprofit Community Action Team (CAT), which focuses on projects for youth, animals and the environment.
