Long Beach entrepreneurs can kick start their business through City’s new microgrant program

The City of Long Beach has introduced a new microgrant initiative aimed at assisting local startups and micro-entrepreneurs with funds to start or expand their business plans. 

Through the City’s Economic Development Department, the Inclusive Business Navigators Microgrant Program will give $2,500 and $5,000 grants, totaling up to $80,000 in funding, to tens of business applicants.

“Access to capital should not prevent anyone from starting and growing a thriving business in Long Beach. Supporting our micro-businesses helps to advance the more inclusive and equitable economic growth of our city,” said Mayor Rex Richardson in a public statement. “Micro-businesses are encouraged to apply and take advantage of all the programs, resources and tools that the city has available.”

Those who are interested in applying for microgrants are encouraged to create a basic business plan and outline how they would use their grant funding, with help from the City’s Inclusive Business Navigators. Applicants will be given technical support to help complete their applications and can contact BizCare for a referral by calling 562-570-4249 or emailing 4Biz@longbeach.gov. 

“These grants are an investment in our local entrepreneurs as they launch and grow their small business,” said Economic Development Department Director Bo Martinez in a public statement. “Small businesses are the foundation of our city, and we’re committed to supporting entrepreneurs and fostering an environment where every business owner has the opportunity to flourish and thrive.”

The Inclusive Business Navigators Microgrant Program is funded through the Long Beach Recovery Act, which has assisted Long Beach residents and businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

This program also aligns with objectives within the City’s Racial and Reconciliation Initiative to team up with local organizations to provide inclusive business assistance and resources through local business centers.
