The Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association is looking for someone to fill the now vacant spot of executive director and is now accepting applications from those hoping to take on the role.
“We’re looking for people with the desire and passion for the job and the drive to do something,” said outgoing Executive Director Susan Cooper. “Someone who has a reason to work for a non-profit.”
The Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association (BKBIA) is a non-profit organization that works with the city of Long Beach to provide programs designed to strengthen the organization, promote and market the district, strengthen and attract new businesses and improve the common areas.
As stated in its request, the BIA is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual with “expertise” in business district management to lead and facilitate the ongoing revitalization of an area comprised of retail, commercial and professional services as directed by the organization’s volunteer board of directors.
“There are a lot of ways to go into this job, but it’s critical to have an understanding of business,” said Cooper.
Responsibilities for the job include leading the implementation and enhancement of the association’s goals, acting as a liaison with municipal government and local media on behalf of the BIA, event management, keeping track of financial activities and organizing the board and committee meetings, among others.
The position, though salaried, has the workload of a full-time job, according to Cooper. She also says that on top of computer skills and basic accounting, applicants should have a sense of humor and be able to multitask.
“Because there is no ‘most important’ task,” she said. “If you can’t maintain it all, it will all fall apart. The person has to be able to juggle and address multiple factors at the same time.”
The BIA has posted their opening online and has begun screening applicants.
