The City of Long Beach ended its Public Notice to Boil Water early Friday morning. Residents in the impacted areas can now safely drink the water pumped to their homes.
Residents had been asked late Wednesday night and Thursday to only use boiled or bottled water after a water main break in the Cal Heights neighborhood led to a drop in water pressure for residents in the 90807, 90805 and parts of the 90806 zip codes.
Mayor Rex Richardson said in a press conference on Thursday that the Boil Water Notice was required by the state whenever public water systems experience a loss in water pressure. Drops in pressure in public water systems can lead to an increased risk of bacteria growth or contamination, according to multiple public agencies.
The City said the public notice was out of an abundance of caution as they tested the water.
