Long Beach Veterans Day Parade Committee Chair Martha Thuente received a check for $10,000 from Ron Mateas, Gordon Leaman, and Jimmy Crosby of Paramount Petroleum Corporation last week to help fund the parade.
“Our company believes in supporting the community and we are proud to honor our veterans,” said Leaman who is the general manager of Paramount of Long Beach.
The annual parade and fair is one of the largest Veterans Day events in Southern California and is sponsored by the committee, a citizen-based, non-profit organization whose goal is to honor all veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
“We appreciate the generous support of Paramount Petroleum,” said Thuente.
Councilman Val Lerch, who also serves on the committee, said, “We are proud to have Paramount Petroleum as a strong supporter of this event. We couldn’t do it without the support of good corporate citizens such as Paramount.”
This year’s parade is particularly unique because it is the first time in the history of the event that we will be led by a female military grand marshal. Col. Lisa Constanza, 40th Infantry Division was selected as this year’s grand marshal.
The Long Beach Veterans Day Parade begins Saturday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. at Houghton Park, located at 6301 Myrtle Avenue in Long Beach. The parade route will go from Atlantic to 56th Street, turning and going north up Atlantic and ending back at Houghton Park for a post-parade ceremony and fair.
The fair will feature merchandise vendors, food, a free kiddyland area and city departments giving out information regarding their programs and services.
