St. Anthony’s almunus enters Hall of Fame

On Monday, George H. Niederauer, current Archbishop of San Francisco, was welcomed back to his alma mater by students, staff, alumni and friends of St. Anthony High School. Some 300 guests attended the “2007 Community of Saints Prayer Breakfast.”
Niederauer was honored as the newest member of the 88-year-old high school’s “Hall of Fame.” This honor is given to those who have distinguished themselves as servant-leaders through service to community, family, church, and school.
Born in Los Angeles in 1936, Niederauer graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1954. He attended Stanford University before deciding enter St. John’s Seminary where he recevied a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in 1959.
Niederauer was ordained to the priesthood in 1962. He was raised to the rank of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness in 1984, and was appointed Bishop of Salt Lake City in 1994. Neiderauer received his Episcopal consecration in 1995, and, in 2005, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Archbishop Niederauer as the eighth Metropolitan Archbishop of San Francisco.
Throughout his life, Archbishop Niederauer has remained close to many of his classmates, and connected to his alma mater and its students.
