As Leadership Long Beach gears up for its 16th annual MLK Day of Service, nine volunteer opportunities across Long Beach are still open for sign-ups.

Taking place on Monday, Jan. 20, the MLK Day of Service is a partnership with the California Volunteers, in the Office of the Governor, an agency that mobilizes residents for civic service and volunteer opportunities.

This annual coordinated effort on Martin Luther King Jr. Day invites residents to uphold the legacy of Dr. King by partaking in one of several local cleanups, workshops or restoration projects to uplift the community.

As of Tuesday, Jan. 14, nine MLK Day of Service initiatives have already reached their volunteer threshold. Here are the remaining volunteer opportunities:

For volunteers, the MLK Day of Service begins with the Volunteer Kickoff pancake breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Trades, Technology and Community Learning Campus of Long Beach City College (LBCC), located at 1305 E. Pacific Coast Highway. Following the breakfast, volunteer projects will begin at 10:30 a.m. Food donations for the Volunteer Center’s new pantry as well as full-size hygiene items for LBCC’s Basic Needs program are encouraged.
