Early Sunday in the far, far away galaxy of Long Beach, all are invited to join a morning workout, dress in themed costumes and celebrate Star Wars Day at The Empire Strides Back.
This intergalactic event from CaliFlow Runs will take place at 5400 E. Ocean Blvd. along the Long Beach waterfront and offer three race options: 5K, 10K and half marathon.
Every year May 4 — as in may the force (fourth) be with you — is recognized as Star Wars Day, with fans of the sci-fi franchise celebrating their love with events thrown all over the world. For this Sunday’s run, Star Wars-inspired costumes are highly encouraged, so attendees can portray a jedi, ewok, sith lord, storm trooper or various other characters.
Runners can enjoy free race-day photos, photo ops with life-size characters from the “Star Wars” franchise and a group lightsaber photo shoot at the nearby pier. After crossing the finish line, runners will be greeted with a post-race festival featuring music, raffles and prizes.
Bib pick-up opens Sunday at 6 a.m. at the Race Ready Athletics tent. The half marathon will kick off the race schedule at 7 a.m. followed by the 5K and 10K both starting at 7:30 a.m. All runners will receive a finisher medal and there will be awards for the top finishers overall and by age group.
Race registration for The Empire Strides Back is $36 for the 5K, $42 for the 10K and $50 for the half marathon. Racers can receive 15% off their registration by using the code “May4th” at checkout. To see other upcoming races being hosted by CaliFlow Runs, visit here.
