Long Beach youth interested in spending their summer training for a career or learning via an internship can explore these opportunities and more at a summer kickoff event on Friday, June 13.
The Long Beach Workforce Innovation Network’s Youth Career Services Center is hosting this event in partnership with the City’s Economic Development Department. Youth can receive valuable information from 30 community organizations, nonprofits and City departments. Representatives will offer a variety of programs and services, including internship and employment opportunities, job training, case management, mental health support and more.
“By connecting youth with resources, training programs and pathways to careers, we are investing in the leaders of tomorrow. These efforts reflect our commitment to equipping the next generation of workers with the skills and support needed to thrive,” said Mayor Rex Richardson in a public statement. “With summer quickly approaching, this event is a great opportunity for young people to learn about paid internship programs and resources designed to help set them up for success.”

LBWIN’s summer kickoff event will also offer engaging activities, creative craft stations, a photo booth, music, food and more. Internship and career training programs span sectors such as public service, aerospace and the criminal justice system.
“We invite all local young people to come out and join us for an afternoon of connection, engagement and fun, while exploring exciting opportunities available this summer and beyond,” said Economic Development Department Director Bo Martinez in a public statement.
The City recently announced it is seeking business partnerships for its youth work experience programs, as well as applicants for the third cohort of the Long Beach Public Service Corps.

This event also aligns with the City’s Summer of Opportunity initiative, a collective impact approach focused on fostering positive development among Long Beach youth while simultaneously addressing youth violence. Highlights of Summer of Opportunity activations and the City’s summer activities calendar are available on the City’s website.
LBWIN’s summer kickoff event will take place on Friday, June 13 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Youth Career Services Center (508 W. Willow St.). Those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP online.
