Salvation Army Thanksgiving
Families in need will have the opportunity tonight to be treated to a traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner, courtesy of Ristorante daVinci in Long Beach and The Salvation Army. The event is geared to help out those in need and will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Ristorante daVinci is located on the third floor of 2801 East Spring Street in Long Beach. Tree Lighting Ceremony
The cities of Long Beach and Signal Hill invite the public to attend their annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. at Discovery Well Park, located at 2200 Temple Avenue in Signal Hill. Refreshments will be provided.
Elks Breakfast
The Elks Lodge of Bellflower/Long Beach is having its monthly breakfast on Sunday, Nov. 25 from 8 a.m. until noon. Enjoy scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, coffee, waffles, orange juice and biscuits with gravy at this public event. The cost is $5.50 per person and the lodge is located at 16426 Bellflower Boulevard in Bellflower.
Barbershop Holiday Show
The Bellflower/Long Beach Elks Club is having its first Barbershop Holiday Show on Friday, Nov 30 at 7:30 p.m. The show will feature the Orange Empire Chorus and Quartets and will take place at their lodge, located at 16426 Bellflower Boulevard in Bellflower. Community Hiking Trip
The Long Beach Group of the Sierra Club invites the public to join them Saturday, Dec. 8 for a hiking trip that is designed for beginners. The 5.5-mile hike takes place at 9 a.m. near the recycling center at Cal State Long Beach. The route will go along Winter Creek trail from Chantry Flat picnic area to Hoegees campground. A packed lunch is recommended along with 2 quarts of water and comfortable footwear.
Breakfast with Santa
Signal Hill’s annual Breakfast with Santa tickets are on sale now. Pre-registration is required and there are only 100 tickets available for this sell-out event. Tickets include a craft, breakfast, and a keepsake photo with Santa Claus. The event is Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Signal Hill Park Community Center. Ticket prices for residents of Signal Hill are $10 for children and $5 for adults. Non-resident ticket prices are $15 for children and $10 for adults. Tickets can be purchased at the Community Services Department, located at 2175 Cherry Avenue in Signal Hill. For more information call (562) 989-7330.
Chamber Holiday Party and Toy Drive
The Signal Hill Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the holidays with a fun-filled party on Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Signal Hill Community Center. The event will have a traditional turkey meal, a variety show, an opportunity drawing and a toy collection for the Salvation Army’s Toy Drive. Hearing Loss Association Meeting
The Long Beach/Lakewood Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) is having a meeting Thursday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. The association is a support group that offers education on coping skills and resources to help the hearing impaired. The HLAA meets monthly at the Weingart Senior Center, located at 5220 Olivia Avenue in Lakewood. For more information, call (562) 433-6509.
Food bank volunteers needed
