SH welcomes new dance studio

The new Signal Hill business Dance Sport California, 3202 E. Willow St., hosted a Halloween dance party and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 28. Owners Bernard and Sonyo Martinez welcomed the Signal Hill Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Signal Hill Cultural Arts and Signal Hill Mayor Larry Forester, and they offered free dance lessons for the community.
DanceSport California specializes in social dances such as salsa, mambo, cha-cha-cha, West Coast swing, Lindy Hop, bachata, jazz and Argentine tango. The Martinezes have a combined background in theater arts, jazz, ballet, folk-dance and martial arts. Bernard is a choreographer, coach, performer and instructor with more than 20 years of teaching experience. Sonyo is trained in various classical dances as well as classical piano. They also sponsor the Salsa Mambo Festival in Palm Springs.
