We’re wishing residents a safe and cool weekend amidst this heat wave, and we have gathered plenty of events in the evening hours or indoors in Long Beach.
Since the school year kicks off Tuesday, end summer vacation by making memories at a summer vibes market in downtown Friday night, a family-friendly festival in the Zaferia District Saturday and Sunday, or a free summer concert Sunday evening.
Spend the next week picking up a new skill at a small business owner’s workshop Friday morning, a historic architecture workshop Saturday morning, printmaking and creative open hours Monday evening, a dance session Tuesday evening or a history lecture Thursday night.

Friday 8/22
Summer Vibes Market: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Check out local vendors, photo ops, raffles and more at this night market from Partake Collective (456 Elm Ave.). Those who RSVP will receive a complimentary s’more while supplies last. Free.
Movie in the Park: 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The public is invited to Signal Hill Park (1780 E. Hill St.) for an outdoor screening of “Captain America: Brave New World.” Recreation activities begin at 6 p.m., followed by the movie at dusk. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic dinners to enjoy a summer evening with family and friends. Complimentary popcorn will be provided. Free.

Saturday 8/23
Community Clean-Up: 8 a.m. to noon. Join fellow residents at Franklin Middle School (540 Cerritos Ave.) to help keep the neighborhood clean. Volunteers will work together to beautify and clean the neighborhood. Free.
Olive & Rose Pool Party: noon to 5 p.m. Spend Saturday afternoon poolside at Olive Rose (255 Atlantic Ave.), where there will be a live DJ from Footwork Records, drink specials and a poolside menu. The first 25 attendees will receive a complimentary drink; This event is geared towards those who are 21+ and guests should bring their own towels. Admission is $25 at the door.
Architecture & Historic Preservation Workshop: 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Learn how to research the history of your home or multi-family property at this workshop with Maureen Neeley, librarian and research consultant specializing in Long Beach historic architecture. This event at Harte Neighborhood Library (1595 W. Willow St.) will guide participants on using online and library resources to discover details such as the builder, architect, original owners, prior occupants, property relocations and address changes. Attendees are encouraged to bring a property address and their library card. Library laptops will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, though participants may also bring their own device. Long Beach Heritage will also present information on historic preservation. Register through the City’s online event calendar. Free.
Happy Sundays: 1 p.m. See live music and comedy performances across the Zaferia District at The Bamboo Club (3522 E. Anaheim St.), Alex’s Bar (2913 E. Anaheim St.) and Port City Tavern (4306 E. Anaheim St.) during this free two-day festival. There will also be an instrument petting zoo led by the Long Beach Symphony, a pop-up from the Tattoo Heritage Project at Fear City Tattoo and an aerospace-focused panel at the Long Beach Art Theater. Movies and Moonlight: 6 p.m. 2ND & PCH (6400 Pacific Coast Hwy.) will host its final outdoor film screening of the summer with a free showing of “Moana 2.” Filmgoers are encouraged to bring low-profile lawn chairs and blankets, and self-seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The event will begin at 6 p.m., with the screening starting at dusk. Free.

Sunday 8/24
Long Beach Revival Festival: 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Experience a full day of live jazz and soul music during this music festival at Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier (35 39th Place). Tickets are available for $45.06 on Eventbrite.
Summer Concert: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Bring a picnic, blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy a family-friendly evening of live jazz fusion with Krooked Fingerz on the historic grounds of Rancho Los Alamitos (6400 E. Bixby Hill Road). Parking will be available at CSULB Lot G13 along with a complimentary shuttle service. Admission is free with registration through Eventbrite.

Monday 8/25
Printmaking Mondays: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This beginner-friendly space invites all people to create what their heart desires, with all supplies provided by PLACE LB (2172 Pacific Ave.). This is a pay-what-you-can event, and no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
No Pulp Poetry Club: 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Local poets are invited to share their work during this open mic night at Recreational Coffee (237 Long Beach Blvd., Suite A). Free admission.

Tuesday 8/26
Concert in the Park: 6 p.m. The Naples Improvement Association invites the community to Colonnade Park (10 The Colonnade Canal) for an outdoor concert. This evening will feature a performance by local artist Aaron Charles. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnic baskets. Free.
Dance Downtown Revolution: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Learn some new dance moves during this community movement session at Promenade Square Park (124 The Promenade N.). This event is open to dancers of all ages, abilities and skill levels. Free.

Wednesday 8/27
South Division Commander’s Forum: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Community members and business leaders are invited to attend this public forum in the LBPD South Division Community Room (400 W Broadway). Hosted by Commander Fernandez, the forum offers residents an opportunity to engage with the Long Beach Police Department, discuss local issues and share concerns. Free.
Theater Performance: 7:30 p.m. Experience the world premiere of “Masala Dabba” at the International City Theater in the Beverly O’Neill Theater (330 E. Seaside Way). This family drama explores love and loss through the story of two long lost sisters who discover each other’s existence. Dinner packages available. General admission tickets start at $44.

Thursday 8/28
MSC End of Summer Resource Bash: Noon to 4 p.m. The City is wrapping up its summer programming at this celebration at the City’s Multi-Service Center (1301 W. 12th St.). Enjoy a live DJ, comedians and giveaways for a day of resources and community connection. This free community event offers support for unhoused and low-income neighbors, featuring 15+ service agencies, medical screenings, free haircuts, clothing, backpacks and food.
California Eden – History Lecture: 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Explore California’s history through cultural landscapes at Rancho Los Alamitos (6400 E. Bixby Hill Road). Dr. Christine Edstrom O’Hara will discuss how humans — from Indigenous peoples to settlers — have shaped the state’s environment. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. General admission is $10.
