Long Beach Animal Care Services (LBACS) is offering adoption specials through the end of August, including waiving its adoption fees from Aug. 29-31, in hopes of connecting its sweet furry friends with new families.

LBACS has joined NBCUniversal Local’s Clear the Shelters campaign, which promotes pet adoptions and donations nationwide all August long. Community members can also help out the campaign by making a donation, fostering an animal, volunteering, donating supplies or posting about the local adoptable animals on social media.

“Each year, we proudly partner with NBCUniversal for Clear the Shelters, a powerful campaign that has helped over a million animals across the country find safe and loving homes,” said Mayor Rex Richardson in a public statement. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to make a real impact by supporting the wellbeing of our local animals. We encourage everyone to visit LBACS this month to experience firsthand the joy of giving an animal a forever home.”

LBACS is currently offering $25 adoption specials for dogs 25 pounds and over, $9 adoption specials for kittens and a 2-for-1 kitten adoption special. Those who are interested in adopting an animal can search the available pets by breed, gender and size and apply online

On Aug. 3, LBACS announced that the shelter was at maximum capacity, illustrating the importance of finding these animals a new home.

“Clear the Shelters is a great opportunity to help your local shelter when it needs you the most,” said Melanie Wagner, Manager of Long Beach Animal Care Services, in a public statement. “August is historically a challenging time for shelters, which makes this event more than just an adoption event—it’s a beacon of hope for our community’s animals.”

For 11 years running, NBC and Telemundo-owned stations, affiliates, animal shelters and rescues have collaborated on Clear the Shelters. Since it began in 2015, this annual program has helped over 1 million pets nationwide find new homes.

Long Beach Animal Services, located at 7700 E. Spring St., is open Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m .to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. To learn more about LBACS and its ongoing programs, visit longbeach.gov/acs.
