“When I came to the Greater Long Beach chapter (GLBC) of the American Red Cross in 1998 from the Los Angeles chapter, the volunteers, board of directors, donors and staff made me feel at home,” Kindelan said. “I appreciate everything we have done together. We have built a strong chapter that is well positioned for the future. Although it’s not easy to leave my friends at the Red Cross, for now, I want to kick back, play golf, travel, and enjoy my family. I will volunteer as a student mentor at my alma mater, USC, and continue my involvement on the board of directors of several nonprofit organizations.”
“We have enjoyed working closely with Nancy for many years,” said GLBC Chairman of the Board of Directors Jo Bracken. “She has provided great leadership and, as a result of her insightful guidance, the Chapter has grown into an extremely high-performing region. She is widely respected for her sound fiscal management, delivery of comprehensive Red Cross services and her work to expand the organization’s visibility. Red Cross National Headquarters has frequently assigned her to work with other Red Cross chapters to improve their economic strength.”
Some of the highlights in Kindelan’s time with Long Beach include raising more than $4 million for Hurricane Katrina relief, improving the chapter’s per-capita fundraising, tripling the number of Disaster Services volunteers and expanding both disaster-response capacity and quality of services.
Kindelan has been with the American Red Cross since 1980, rising steadily to Chief Financial Officer for the Greater Los Angeles Chapter. She was promoted to CEO of the Greater Long Beach Chapter in 1998 and CEO for the Rancho Region in 2007.
The Board of Directors search committee has chosen Margaret Arbini-Madonna to follow Kindelan on March 1, 2012. Arbini-Madonna has been with the American Red Cross since 2004 and currently serves as the chief development officer for the Greater Long Beach Chapter. She has more than 20 years of experience in the field of marketing and communications, having served as the director of Marketing Communications for the Press-Telegram, director of marketing at the Riverside Press-Enterprise, and as the director of marketing for the International City Theatre in Long Beach.
