The City of Long Beach released a public notice on Sept. 2 reminding residents to prepare for an upcoming Special Statewide Election in California.

The election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 4, and will decide the fate of Proposition 50, a proposed constitutional amendment.

If approved, Proposition 50 would temporarily suspend the current congressional districts in California and allow the state to create a new district map for elections held between 2026 and 2030.

All active registered California voters, including those living in Long Beach, will receive a Vote by Mail ballot beginning Oct. 6. Voters will have several options for returning their ballots, including:

  • Mailing it back through the U.S. Postal Service
  • Using a designated Vote by Mail Ballot Drop Box
  • Delivering it to any Vote Center in Los Angeles County

Details on Vote Centers and ballot drop box locations will be shared with the public prior to the election. The City is encouraging residents to verify their voter registration and mailing address ahead of time to ensure they are able to receive and submit their ballots without issues.

For additional information about the election and Proposition 50, voters can visit the Los Angeles County Registrar -Recorder/County Clerk website.
