Five places to get a free Thanksgiving meal in Long Beach

As Thanksgiving approaches, several local organizations in Long Beach are helping make sure everyone can enjoy a holiday meal. Whether you’re looking for groceries to cook at home, or to sit down for a warm meal with your neighbors, these events offer a helping hand to anyone in need this Thanksgiving. 

Some events welcome walk-ups, while others require attendees to register online beforehand.

Saturday, Nov. 22

Turkey Meal Giveaway: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local Hearts Foundation will distribute free groceries for a Thanksgiving meal at McArthur Park (1321 E. Anaheim St.). There will be a special line for military veterans. Free.

Wednesday, Nov. 26

Food Pantry: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Pools of Hope will host a special Thanksgiving food pantry at the California Aquatic Therapy and Wellness Center (6801 Long Beach Blvd.). Groceries will include eggs, meat, fresh vegetables and more. Resources for health and asthma education will also be offered. Free.

Thanksgiving Angels Dinner Giveaway: 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Greater Harvest Church (1144 Olive Ave.) will host its annual Thanksgiving grocery giveaway. The event will provide 100 families with Thanksgiving grocery bags containing a frozen turkey and traditional trimmings. Free.

Thursday, Nov. 27

Thanksgiving Dinner: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Calvary Chapel North Long Beach (5722 Lime Ave.) will host a Thanksgiving Day dinner that’s open to all. Everyone is welcome, especially those who may be in need or are spending the holiday alone. No registration required. Free.

Saturday, Nov. 29

Thanksgiving Dinner & Giveaway: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Christian Outreach in Action (515 E. Third St.) will host its annual community Thanksgiving celebration. Families and individuals are invited to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal with turkey, stuffing, vegetables and pie from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a grocery giveaway from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., including options for people without access to a kitchen. No registration required. Free.
