According to Nancy Pratt, public information officer with the Long Beach Police Department, Dorrell was leaving the ship with her boyfriend and was on the walkway leading from the ship to the dock when she climbed onto the walkway’s railing and fell into the water. When officers arrived, they found her in the water, along with a ship employee and the victim’s boyfriend, who both had jumped in to try and rescue her. Two officers also entered the water to assist in pulling all three of them out.
Dorrell was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased a short time later, according to Pratt. The boyfriend, a 40-year-old from Long Beach, was also transported to the hospital for hypothermia. The employee and both officers were treated at the scene and released. “We do believe the woman was intoxicated at the time of her fall,” Pratt said.
