Long Beach Ronald McDonald House celebrates grand opening

More than 300 people gathered for guided tours, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and photos with Ronald McDonald at the grand opening of the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House (LBRMH) on Thursday, Dec. 15. Designed by Studio One Eleven, the architectural firm behind the East Village Arts District’s 4th and Linden project, the LBRMH provides low-cost, and often free, lodging and support for the families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach, Harbor/UCLA Medical Center, St. Mary’s Medical Center and other regional pediatric medical facilities. The first families will move in before the holidays.
“We are thrilled to open the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House,” said Cheri Bazley, executive director of LBRMH. “Through our partnerships with nearby children’s pediatric centers, this House is truly going to make a difference to families who are going through a very difficult time in their lives.”
The house, a reuse of a dated apartment building, has 23 guest rooms and private bathrooms, a kitchen where families can cook meals at any time, dining area, living room, and computer room. Other ammenities include outdoor BBQs, a play room, meditation garden, and outdoor living room.
