The 2011 winter break for Long Beach students is under way, and many schools will be closed until Jan. 9.
The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) has issued a press release to remind parents that Section 9.58.010 of the Long Beach Municipal Code states: “It is unlawful for any minor under the age of 18 years to remain in or upon any ‘public place’ as defined in Section 9.02.090, between the hours of 10pm until 6am the following day.”
Minors who are on the streets after curfew are more likely to become victims of violent crime, and also are more likely to become involved in criminal behavior, according to the press release. The LBPD enforces curfew violations and requests that parents help keep their children safe by knowing where they are at all times and also ensuring they are home before curfew.
“Curfew laws protect minors and keep them safe, and Long Beach Police officers will enforce this law with your child’s safety in mind,” states the press release. “By working together, we can help provide your young people a safe and enjoyable winter break.”
