Interactive Theatre for Kids
From now until Dec. 22, the Garage Theatre is hosting its 5th Annual Melodrama Long Beach is Sinking! or Hard Time is Easier Than a Life of Injustice by Jamie Sweet. The production lets children and audience members participate in live theatre with set painting and tomato throwing. The melodrama is on Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for children. The Garage Theatre is located at 251 East 7th Street in Long Beach. Christmas Eve Comedy Show
On Monday, Dec. 24 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., the River Church invites the public to its annual Christmas Eve comedy show, entitled “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” See what happens when the worst kids in town take over the church’s pageant. New Year’s Eve Sleepover
The Aquarium of the Pacific invites the public to join them in ringing in the new year with their New Year’s Eve Family Sleepover on Monday, Dec. 31. The event, which begins at 5 p.m. Monday and lasts until 7 a.m. Tuesday, will give guests the opportunity to celebrate with the fish as they observe the nocturnal behaviors of the Aquarium’s animals. Participants will get to feed fish, watch a 3D film and sleep in front of one of the Aquarium’s exhibits while counting down to the New year. The cost is $60 for each Aquarium member and $70 for non-members. Price includes a pizza dinner, snack, breakfast, beverages and a souvenir T-shirt. SAY CHEESE, LONG BEACH!
A 24-hour digital photo contest for amateurs and professionals hosted by Justin Rudd and his nonprofit Community Action Team will take place in Long Beach from noon to noon on Jan. 5—6. Documenting and celebrating vibrant life in Long Beach, California, the best images will be awarded cash and prizes. Entry is free and all ages are welcome. Photographers do not have to live or work in Long Beach to enter. The public can view the top 200 images at a free outdoor exhibit on Saturday, Jan. 12 from noon to 5 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of Washington Mutual Bank, 5200 East 2nd Street in Belmont Shore. University Women Meeting
Long Beach City Auditor Laura Doud will be speaking to the Long Beach Branch of the American Association of University Women on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 11 a.m. Doud will be speaking about her newly elected position and about being the second woman to ever take on the role. Ham Radio Classes
The Shoreline Yacht Club is offering no-code ham radio classes in 2008. On January 19 and 20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the club will be teaching the course for those interested in receiving their technician license. The cost for the class is $70 and it includes a continental breakfast, lunch, and textbook. After the final class, students will have the opportunity to take the FCC license exam for an additional $14.
