A free six-hour holiday show at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the Music Center on Christmas Eve gave center stage to some 40 performing groups for Southern California residents, and LiNKS provided the link to members of the deaf community.
LiNKS Interpreting Services, a division of Goodwill, provided the interpreters for the event, which was also covered live on the public broadcasting station KCET.
“We were very excited to be able to provide the interpreters,” said Chuck Scarpaci, director of LiNKS Interpreting Services. “This isn’t the first time that we have provided an interpreter for a city or county-held event,” said Scarpaci.
“There are more than 875,000 estimated people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area who need equal access to communications for services that many in the hearing world take for granted,” said Scarpaci. “They range from every day circumstances to cultural and musical events such as the L.A. County Holiday Celebration.”
LiNKS Sign Language & Interpreting Services is a division of Goodwill that provides short and long-term ASL and trilingual (Spanish) Interpreting services to businesses, government agencies, organizations and private individuals for the deaf and hard of hearing clients.
The 48th Annual L.A. County Holiday Celebration featured choirs and dance companies and is sponsored by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and produced by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.
