Tickets are on sale now at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts’s presentation of Paul Revere & The Raiders the opening act for The Righteous Brothers’ Bill Medley Sunday, Feb. 3 at 3 p.m.
Paul Revere & The Raiders formed in 1958 and, throughout the next decade, went on to release 23 consecutive hits on the Billboard charts, including “Indian Reservation” , “Him or Me” and “Good Thing.”
The first rock group to be signed with Columbia Records, the group ended the decade as the third-best selling group, following only the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Paul Revere & The Raiders continue to sell out performances throughout the world, including the Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado, where the band performed for 87,000 fans.
Born in Los Angeles and raised in Santa Ana, California, Bill Medley always had a passion for music. He taught himself to play piano, which led to his writing songs, and he figured it would be songwriting–rather than performing–that would be the key to his career in music.
Medley formed a local group called The Paramours and was introduced to Bobby Hatfield, who led The Variations. One night they put their voices together, and the result was magic, as well as the beginning of The Righteous Brothers in 1962. Medley was the duo’s first songwriter, and later the producer. They released “Little Latin Lupe Lu” followed by the now-classic “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” and “Unchained Melody.” Hatfield passed away in 2003.
In addition to his work with The Righteous Brothers, Medley has a successful solo career. He demonstrated his versatility by joining forces with another duet partner, Jennifer Warnes, on the chart-topping song from Dirty Dancing, “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life,” which came up a winner at the Grammy Awards, the Academy Awards, and the Golden Globe Awards.
Tickets are now on sale for the Sunday, Feb. 3 performance of Paul Revere & The Raiders opening for The Righteous Brothers’ Bill Medley at the CCPA.
