Wrigley Neighborhood Alliance Meeting
The Wrigley Neighborhood Alliance (WANA) will host its monthly meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Academy, located at 2750 Pine Avenue in Long Beach. Say Cheese, Long Beach!
A 24-hour digital photo contest for amateurs and professionals hosted by Justin Rudd and his nonprofit Community Action Team will take place in Long Beach from noon to noon on Jan. 5 and 6. Documenting and celebrating vibrant life in Long Beach, the best images will be awarded cash and prizes. Entry is free and all ages are welcome. Photographers do not have to live or work in Long Beach to enter. The public can view the top 200 images at a free outdoor exhibit on Saturday, Jan. 12 from noon to 5 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of Washington Mutual Bank, 5200 East 2nd Street in Belmont Shore. University Women Meeting
Long Beach City Auditor Laura Doud will speak to the Long Beach Branch of the American Association of University Women on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 11 a.m. about her duties as City Auditor and about being the second woman to ever take on the role. The meeting will be held at The Grand Long Beach Event Center, located at 4101 Willow Street in Long Beach. The program is open to the public. Disabled Students Presentation
The Disabled Resources Center invites the public to view a presentation taking place Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Representatives from Long Beach City College will be telling visitors about their Disabled Students Program, a complimentary service given to those with special needs. Volunteer Tutors Needed
OASIS and the Long Beach Unified School District need volunteers 50 and older for one hour a week to help children ranging from kindergarten to third grade for one-on-one assistance to improve their reading skills. Ham Radio Classes
The Shoreline Yacht Club is offering no-code ham radio classes in 2008. On Jan. 19 and 20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the club will be teaching the course for those interested in receiving their technician license. The cost for the class is $70 and it includes a continental breakfast, lunch, and textbook. After the final class, students will have the opportunity to take the FCC license exam for an additional $14. Scam Stopper
Learn from a panel of experts what you can do to stop scam artists in their tracks. Come discuss legislation pertaining to identity theft and scams in such areas as insurance, telemarketing, consumer products and home improvements. Presented by California Assembly Member Betty Karnette, the program will take place at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25 inside the Signal Hill City Hall Council Chamber, located at 2175 Cherry Avenue.
