Several Poly High School students were chosen to participate in the 2008 Youth Leadership Long Beach program. Long Beach residents Joseph Brooks, Lauren Gimmilaro, Elise Zvirbulis, Kelly Sloan, Antonio Beltran, Brittany Pratt and Morgan Hamilton have signed on to sharpen their leadership skills while learning about the social and political aspects of the Long Beach community.
The five-month program is designed for high school sophomores and juniors to develop leadership skills and to heighten their sensitivity to the racial, social and cultural issues common within a diverse community such as Long Beach. The students will be attending classes that cover such topics as leadership principle, community vision, integrity and teamwork, cultural climate and diversity as well as gratitude and respect.
