This year represents the first time a Reserve Police Officer of the Year has ever been recognized by the Long Beach Police Department and it is clear there is no better-qualified or more deserving candidate than Reserve Police Lieutenant David Madigan.
Throughout his reserve police career, Madigan has consistently donated an average of 1,200 police service hours each year. When he is not donating his time and expertise to the city of Long Beach, he is a full-time employee for the Boeing Corporation, where he has also developed an outstanding professional reputation.
In addition to his professional and public service commitments, Madigan is also known to be very kind, often putting the needs of others above his own and helping others in their time of need.
Madigan has served the city of Long Beach as a volunteer reserve police officer since 1991. During this time, he has served in several capacities in both the patrol and support bureaus.
Madigan was promoted to reserve corporal in 1994, reserve sergeant in 1998 and reserve lieutenant in 2006.
During his career, Madigan has received numerous letters of appreciation and commendation, including two Chief’s Citations, two Meritorious Class C Wards and a Unit Citation Award.
In 2006, in recognition for his dedication to the city of Long Beach and his commitment to professionalism and community service, Madigan received the prestigious Outstanding Young Californian award from the California Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Madigan is to be commended for his professionalism and unwavering commitment to excellence and the Long Beach Police Department. He has risen well above and beyond the expectations of most law enforcement professionals.
