Long Beach City College to host State of the College Address Friday

Long Beach City College (LBCC) will host its inaugural State of the College Address on Friday, January 11 at 11 a.m. in the Hall of Champions Gymnasium on the Liberal Arts Campus. President Eloy Ortiz Oakley will present his address to the college and community as LBCC celebrates 80 years of serving the communities of Long Beach, Lakewood, Signal Hill and Avalon.
Doug Otto, the president of the Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees, will provide introductory comments to the address as Oakley completes the first full year of his presidency of the two-year community college that serves more than 29,000 students each semester.
The address provides an opportunity for President Oakley to give an annual report to the greater community about the programs and initiatives at the college. He will provide a brief review of the activities and accomplishments of the past and also highlight some of the students, faculty and staff that have made significant contributions to the community.
The event supports the board of trustees’ goals for 2007-2009 and President Oakley’s 18-month agenda which both call for increased community engagement and awareness of Long Beach City College’s initiatives and programs.
In lieu of a luncheon fee, donations will be accepted at the event to assist the Gateway to Greatness Scholarship campaign. For more information, call (562) 938-4846.
