Historical Society Meeting
The Signal Hill Historical Society will host a general meeting that is open to the public Thursday, Jan. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Signal Hill Library, located at 1770 East Hill Street in Signal Hill. Volunteer tutors needed
OASIS and the Long Beach Unified School District need volunteers 50 and older for one hour a week to help children ranging from kindergarten to third grade for one-on-one assistance to improve their reading skills. Peace March
The public is invited to join 6th District Councilmember Dee Andrews and the city of Long Beach Human Dignity Program as they kick off Peace Week 2008 with a candlelight march Saturday, Jan 12 at 5 p.m. The march is the first in a series of week-long activities designed to unify the community. The Peace March begins at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, located at 1950 Lemon Avenue in Long Beach. Free Concert
The Grace First Presbyterian Church is kicking off 2008 with their concert series on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Singer/songwriter Trevor Davis will be performing music from his first full-length album Nothing Ringing True. The concert is the first in a series of musical performances. Grace First Presbyterian Church is located at 3955 Studebaker Road in Long Beach. Ham Radio Classes
The Shoreline Yacht Club is offering no-code ham radio classes in 2008. On Jan. 19 and 20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the club will be teaching the course for those interested in receiving their technician license. The cost for the class is $70 and it includes a continental breakfast, lunch and textbook. After the final class, students will have the opportunity to take the FCC license exam for an additional $14. Telecommunication Seminar
The Disabled Resources Center invites the public to view a presentation taking place Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Kathy Keller from the Jewish Community Center will give a presentation on how disabled and home-bound people can maintain contact with loved ones using the internet and other forms of telecommunication. Scam Stopper
Learn from a panel of experts how to stop scam artists in their tracks and join the discussion regarding legislation pertaining to identity theft and scams in such areas as insurance, telemarketing, consumer products and home improvements. Presented by California Assembly Member Betty Karnette, the program will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25 inside the Signal Hill City Hall Council Chamber, located at 2175 Cherry Avenue.
