The 20th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace and Unity Parade’s theme–taken from the title of King’s last published book–will be “Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?”
“In selecting this year’s event theme, I wanted to make certain that Dr. King’s teaching continues through-out the celebration and for future generations. We need to lift the consciousness of our community to remind them of the principles of Dr. King,” said 6th District Councilmember Dee Andrews. “It is not just a day of celebration and music. It is a day where all of us can reflect on the accomplishments of the past and recognize the need to continue his work.”
The parade will begin on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the corner of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Anaheim Street. A multicultural celebration will follow at King Park, located 1950 Lemon Avenue, with music and dance performances, games, food, and nonprofit community services information.
“Our purpose with this year’s event is to bring harmony back to the community and bring people together to lift the consciousness of the community,” Andrews said.
Last year, more than 10,000 people participated in the parade and celebration.
