Runners, joggers and their dedicated supporters will descend upon Long Beach this weekend for the 42nd annual Long Beach Marathon and surrounding festivities.
Residents should be wary of planned street closures and plan for extra travel time around downtown and the shoreline.
Most road closures and detours will be in place at various times on a rolling basis between 4:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, but several areas around Shoreline Drive will also be impacted Saturday. The closures generally include both sides of the street, unless otherwise noted.

Streets affected include the following and are closed Sunday between 4:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. unless otherwise noted:
- Eastbound Shoreline Drive – Shoreline Village Drive to Ocean Boulevard (closure begins at 7 a.m. on Saturday and continues until 5 p.m. on Sunday)
- Shoreline Drive, both directions – Shoreline Village Drive to Ocean Boulevard (closure begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday)
- Shoreline Drive, from Shoreline Village Drive to the 710 Freeway
- Pine Avenue, from Shoreline Drive to Seaside Way
- Queensway Bridge, from Shoreline Drive to the 710 Freeway
- Ocean Boulevard, from Livingston Drive to 54th Street
- Livingston Drive, from Termino Avenue to Broadway
- Nieto Avenue, from Appian Way to Broadway
- Appian Way, from Nieto Avenue to East Third Street
- East Third Street, from Appian Way to Paoli Way

The streets being used for the marathon course are scheduled to reopen by 2 p.m. Sunday. Shoreline Drive between Shoreline Village Drive and Ocean Boulevard is scheduled to reopen fully by 5 p.m.

Temporary “no parking” restrictions will be posted along the course. Vehicles parked in restricted areas may receive citations and be towed at the owner’s expense to the tow yard at 3111 E. Willow St.

Free parking will be available Saturday night through Sunday for Belmont Shore, Peninsula and Naples residents in the beach lots along Ocean Boulevard. Exiting may be possible at select areas on Sunday during the marathon by police escort. Boat owners who park at Marina Green parking lot on Saturday will still have access via Shoreline Village Drive. On Sunday, boat owners can park at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center via Pine Avenue.
