Long Beach’s Bay Shore Neighborhood Library will temporarily close from Oct. 26 through at least early 2027 for ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and restroom improvements.
The library’s existing restrooms will be renovated to create fully accessible, all-gender facilities. Bay Shore will also see its electrical panel relocated, as well as a modified hallway and office walls, upgraded lighting and plumbing and a new drinking fountain.
While the library is closed, the community will continue to have access to select library services, including:
- To-Go Service: Afternoon pickup service will be available for library materials.
- Weekly Story Times: Story times will continue to provide opportunities for children and families to stay connected with the library at off-site locations. For more information about locations, dates, and times, visit the Long Beach Public Library’s website.
During Bay Shore Neighborhood Library’s temporary closure, residents can visit three nearby locations:
- Alamitos Neighborhood Library – open Tuesday through Saturday (1836 E. Third St.)
- Brewitt Neighborhood Library – open Tuesday through Saturday (4036 E. Anaheim St.)
- Los Altos Neighborhood Library – open Tuesday through Saturday (5614 E. Britton Dr.)
The project is funded by Measure A, a Long Beach ballot initiative approved by voters in 2016 as a 10-year sales tax to support public infrastructure and public safety services. In 2020, voters approved extending Measure A indefinitely.
