The Guinness Book of World Records recognizes Les Brown’s Band of Renown as “The Longest-Running Musical Organization in the History of Popular Music” and the ensemble was named “America’s Best Dance Band” for 10 consecutive years by Downbeat magazine. Now, the orchestra brings The Sentimental Journey Tour to the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 3:00 p.m.
Les Brown’s Band of Renown’s The Sentimental Journey Tour is a musical variety and multimedia live show featuring the stars of the hit PBS television series Branson Jubilee. Described as more than a concert, The Sentimental Journey Tour is a musical event, complete with music, comedy, and memories and stories of one of America’s best-loved musicians. Audiences can expect to hear many of Les Brown’s Top 10 hits, including “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm” and “Sentimental Journey.”
Les Brown’s Band of Renown has a musical legacy dating back to the late 1930s. The group was Bob Hope’s official band on his radio shows, 18 of his television specials, and for his historic USO shows (for 50 years). Its hit “Sentimental Journey,” sung by Doris Day, became the unofficial anthem commemorating the return of American troops at the end of World War II. The band also served as the house band for The Dean Martin Variety Show for 10 seasons.
In 2001 Les Brown, Jr. became the full-time leader of the Band of Renown, which continues to perform throughout the world. Brown, Jr. also co-hosts with Deana Martin (Dean Martin’s daughter) the Music of Your Life syndicated radio program.
