Checked and Balanced is an interactive “one-stop shop” designed to boldly bring political information and resources to Southern California, according to Lecours. A production of PBS SoCaL, the website will include coverage centered around local election events, informal and formal polling, political speeches, analysis, debates, community voter events and political party events while including local perspective on state and national issues.
The mission of Checked and Balanced is to be a central online hub for greater Los Angeles 2012 election coverage with local election transparency and user participation, and grow to become a trusted collaborative public media source beyond the election period, said Lecours, who will kick off coverage in Long Beach.
In addition to writing for the Signal Tribune, Lecours is political moderator for Lecours HQ: Nerve Center for Long Beach Insiders, an online video program on which she interviews Long Beach’s power players.
Checked and Balanced will launch in mid-August following the conclusion of the current campaign on Kickstarter, a funding platform for creative projects. Additional financial support will be sought from charitable foundations beyond the election cycle.
