I signed the Taxpayers’ Right to Know and Vote petition. I like the two-thirds voter approval requirement for city revenue proposals on a ballot. We need better cost control in this city. I am a homeowner, and I want to be able to influence the cost of owning property in this city and living in this city. If the Council needs to raise money for a community project and asks me to help pay for it, then I would have the opportunity to vote for it.
I did some research on how the Right to Vote on “fees” would affect yearly fee increases proposed by the Council. The Right to Vote only applies to “fees” that affect my property. That means fees such as library fines and police fees are not affected. State laws already control non-property fees, and they are exempt from voter approval because we voted to make them a State law.
I want better cost control in this city and believe Know and Vote is a good way to get it.
