St. Mary Medical Center honored its volunteers at its Annual Volunteer Luncheon. The hospital volunteers in combination gave more than 85,000 hours of service to the hospital last year.
“We couldn’t operate the hospital without the loyal volunteers,” said Chris DiCicco, hospital president. “They are a great asset to our medical center.”
The annual event also served to honor one of the volunteers with the first-ever Kimberly Award. The award is named after Kim Nejdl.
“While Kim was with us only for a year before her death, her impact on the patients and employees that she encountered was an inspiration,” said Martha McNaughton, director of Volunteer Services. “She exhibited exceptional spirit and enthusiasm each day she arrived at St. Mary to do her volunteer duties. She had a way about her that ‘lightened our load’ and lifted the life of each person she encountered during the day.”
The Kimberly Award was given to Sheila Hanley. She is a long time auxiliary member and is currently a guild member who has served as past president.
She is also a St. Mary Medical Center Foundation board member, having served as chairwoman of the board and the founding chairwoman and is an active member of the annual Hospice and Cancer Auction. In 2005, she received the St. Mary Life Achievement Award.
